Green Collar Jobs are environmental careers for the 21st century (and beyond). These include jobs related to alternative energy, water resources, green marketing, green business, green building, and environmental law. Arborist is one such profession.
In these uncertain times many people are re-thinking their career choices and some are considering sustainable careers for the future. Young people especially need to consider what types of work may be threatened by AI or become obsolete in the not-too-distant future.
Arboriculture is a rewarding and challenging career where you work outdoors and keep fit, looking after trees and the wider environment. Arborists have the opportunity to compete with others at regional and national competitions; some skilled men and women even get sponsored to attend overseas competitions.
ArbWest has already achieved a great milestone in making Arboriculture a recognised Trade through apprenticeships. Former ArbWest president Royce Turner recently described arboriculture as “an exciting green collar career”, going on to say “In order to give young people this option, we are developing a new Cert II in Arboriculture, allowing students to choose this career path as early as Year 11 and 12”.
Arborists don't grow on trees! So we must grow our own, by raising awareness of this vital profession to attract the next generation of tree care professionals.
